Recent Sermons

Grace Luterhan Church has begun recording the Sunday sermons and is making them available on-line. All sermons are in MP3 format, and due to significant size of the files only the three most recent ones are available for listening. Downloading and playing these files requires the appropriate MP3 add in. If this is not available on your PC you will usually be given the opportunity to download it and install the first time you try.

REVEREND KARL G. SCHULER
Installed as Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church
Sunday, August 29, 2010

On August 29th, Pastor Schuler was installed as Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church.

Pastor Schuler was born in Bayshore, New York.  He received his BA degree in Liberal Arts in 1986 from the University of Texas at Austin with teaching certificates in English and Government, and an MBA degree from Texas A&M University in 1988 with an emphasis in Finance and Human Resources.  After entering the ministry field he received a Masters of Arts in Practical and Systematic Theology in 2008 from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.

Prior to attending the Seminary, Pastor Karl was employed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas where he served as the Deputy Director of the Human Resources (HR) Office providing HR support and services to over 3,000 Federal employees.  When considering his years at NASA, Pastor Karl recalls, “The best thing that happened to me at the Johnson Space Center was that I met my wife, Diana.”  They have been married for nearly 18 years, and have two fun-loving boys.  Tristan, their oldest son, is entering 10th grade and loves music, and Jadon who loves Scouts and X-Box, is entering 5th grade.

Diana was born in East Chicago, Indiana, and their two sons were born in Texas. Diana—the Schuler family’s real rocket scientist—is an avionics project engineer who is an expert in spacecraft displays and controls that the astronauts use during flight.  Diana is also fluent in Spanish.

Pastor Karl is a second career pastor and has been working in the Department of Transportation’s Office of the Secretary involved with Human Resources Management and Policy in Washington, D.C.  Prior to that, he was Executive Pastor at CrossPoint Community Church in Katy, Texas.  He also served on the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Education Association of Houston which oversees and champions exemplary Lutheran schools across the greater Houston area.  Before becoming a pastor, he was a lay minister for 3 years at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas.  In addition, he taught men’s and adult Bible studies, was a prayer partner team lead, and he served or led various ministries and special project teams.

Pastor and family reside in Fairfax County, Virginia.  Pastor Karl enjoys biking, skiing, fishing, camping, canoeing, enjoying music, reading and spending time with his family.

Together, he and the people of Grace Lutheran Church look forward to this new adventure with God, sharing the love of Christ with one another and with the Woodbridge Community.
